No. 17 Amherst collects Little Three Championship title

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- Sophomore Harrison Dow delivered a runner-up finish as the Amherst College men's cross country team claimed the Little Three Championship title for the first time since 2018 on Saturday at Mount Greylock Regional High School.

The Mammoths totaled 28 points to finish ahead runner up Williams with 31 points while Wesleyan finished in third with 68 points. According to the latest USTFCCCA Division III Poll, Amherst is ranked 17th while the Ephs are ranked seventh. "While the results are incredibly encouraging, we are making sure not to get too high or too low," said head cross country coach Hannah Chappell-Dick. "There are still 11 weeks until the NCAA National Championships, and we are keeping a long term perspective. The team executed with excellence and we are excited for the journey ahead!"

The Mammoths are back in action on Saturday, September 21 where they will compete in the Cardinal Invitational hosted by Wesleyan.

MAMMOTH SCORING RUNNERS:

* In the first race of the season, Dow navigated the 6K course in 18:46.8 to claim a runner-up finish, improving his career-best cross country finish by two places. 

* Sophomore Stan Craig and junior Henry Dennen finished 0.9 seconds apart with Craig placing third and Dennen taking fourth.

* First-year Ben Kasen finished sixth overall posting a time of 18:55.0 while sophomore Parker Boyle rounded out the Amherst top five, clocking in 19:05.7 for a 13th-place finish.
