AMHERST, Mass. -- The Amherst College men's and women's cross country teams will both travel to Waterford, Conn. to compete in the NCAA Mideast Regional Championship hosted at Harkness Memorial State Park on Saturday, November 16.
"The team is feeling motivated and energized going into Regionals after runner-up finishes at the NESCAC Championships," said head cross country coach
Hannah Chappell-Dick. "We have a very strong, very deep region that will bring out the best in us. We expect several teams to be selected to the NCAA Championship from our region and we feel confident that with good execution, we can be one of them. Ultimately, the goal is to perform our best at the NCAA Championships next week, so everything we do this week will be in service of that goal."
At last year's Mideast championship, the women's team finished as the runner up, returning all seven Mammoths from their regional lineup. Amherst won their first three meets of this season with first-year
Flora Biro winning the individual title at the Little Three Championships. Biro and senior
Sylvan Wold raced to All-NESCAC honors as the Mammoths placed second at the NESCAC Championships.
The men's team placed fourth overall at last year's regional championship returning six of their regional competitors. Amherst won their first two meets of the season and delivered a runner-up finish at the NESCAC Championship where sophomore
Harrison Dow and senior
Nick Edwards-Levin earned a spot on the All-NESCAC team.
Saturday's women's race begins at 11 a.m. with the men's race to follow at noon.
