Box Score SOMERVILLE, Mass. – For the fourth time in six games, the Amherst College football team totaled 30-plus points as it cruised to a 32-7 win on the road against Tufts University Saturday afternoon at Ellis Oval/Zimman Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Amherst scored the first touchdown of the game in the first quarter to take an early lead. Tufts evened the score in the second, but the Purple & White tallied 27 unanswered points en route to the decisive victory.
- Amherst held an 18-10 advantage in first downs, a 170-142 edge in passing yards and a commanding 185-19 advantage in rushing yards as it held the league's top rusher – Chance Brady – to a mere 42 yards on 22 carries (1.9 ypc).
- Both teams threw an interception and lost a fumble, while Amherst claimed a slight edge in time of possession, 30:55-29:05.
- Amherst scored three rushing touchdowns; Nick Kelly '17 (15 att, 83 yds), Kenny Adinkra '16 (13 att, 57 yds) and Reece Foy '18 (8 att, 9 yds). Jimmy Fairfield-Sonn '16 scored the other Purple & White touchdown with a 25-yard pick-six.
- Foy went 18-of-27 for 170 yards and an interception. Devin Boehm '17, Nick Widen '17 and Jackson McGonagle '16 led the team with 70, 47 and 46 receiving yards, respectively. McGonagle also punted seven times for 251 yards, while placing four inside the 20-yardline.
- Fairfield-Sonn led the team in tackles with nine, while Tom Kleyn '16 and Jack Drew '16 recorded seven each. Drew also registered a sack along with Evan Boynton '17 and Reid Singer '16.
- Brady scored Tufts' only touchdown on the day. Quarterback Alex Snyder went 17-of-31 for 142 yards and an interception, while also rushing for negative 33 yards. Mike Rando led the receiving corps with 35 yards on four catches.
- Patrick Williams led Tufts' defense with 14 tackles, and Shane Thomas and Matt McCormack added 13 and 12, respectively.
FIRST HALF HIGHLIGHTS
- Amherst took a 7-0 lead on its second possession of the game. With four first downs during a nine-play, 67 yard drive, Kelly capped it off with a 17-yard run followed by a six-yard touchdown score to give the visitor's a lead with 7:20 to play in the first quarter.
- The Jumbos evened the score in the second quarter. Following a drive that ended in a missed 34-yard field goal, Tufts intercepted Amherst at the visitor's 37-yardline. Ten plays later, the Jumbos knotted the score at 7-7 following a one-yard touchdown run by Brady.
- However, Amherst retaliated on its next possession and scored just 2:52 minutes later. After three carries from Kelly totaled 17 yards, Foy connected on a 33-yard pass to McGonagle on 3rd-and-5 down to the Tufts' 12-yardline. Three plays later, Foy rushed for a one-yard touchdown score with 2:42 to play before the break.
- The Purple & White weren't done yet. On Tufts very next play, Synder was picked off by Fairfield-Sonn as the senior took it back for the touchdown to give Amherst a 21-7 lead at halftime.
SECOND HALF HIGHLIGHTS
- Both defenses held strong in the second half.
- Amherst added to its lead with 8:05 to play in the third quarter. Following a 9-play, 69-yard drive, Charlie Wall '18 made a 29-yard field goal to put the Purple & White ahead by 17.
- After three straight possessions resulted in punts, Tufts started its first drive of the fourth quarter at the 10 minute mark. At its own 16-yardline, Synder dropped back and was sacked for a loss of 12 yards by Singer. He fumbled on the play, and Brady recovered the loose ball in the end zone resulting in a safety.
- On Amherst's ensuing drive, Adinkra and Kelly led the way with Adinkra scoring from four yards out with 5:12 to play to give Amherst the 32-7 win.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Amherst's win streak has reached 17 consecutive games – a program record.
- The Purple & White hold a 55-26-4 advantage over Tufts dating back to 1877, and are 19-4 against the Jumbos since 1993, including eight straight wins. During that stretch, Amherst has outscored Tufts 267-93.
UP NEXT
- Amherst returns to action Saturday, Nov. 7 and will host rival Trinity College (6-0) on Pratt Field at Lehrman Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m.
- Tufts heads back on the road next Saturday and will travel to Colby College (1-5) to take on the Mules at 1 p.m.
