AMHERST, Mass. – The Amherst College football team amassed 570 yards of total offense, including 24 first quarter points en route to a commanding 37-6 win over Bowdoin College Saturday afternoon at Pratt Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- Amherst scored 24 points in the first quarter and held a 30-6 lead at halftime.
- The Purple & White totaled 368 yards on the ground, including a 90-yard touchdown run by quarterback Reece Foy '18, and 202 yards through the air. First-year running back Jack Hickey rushed for 111 yards on 10 carries, including a touchdown and a 52-yard dash, while Foy went 16-of-29 for 202 yards (1 TD) including 98 yards rushing on five carries.
- Amherst held Bowdoin to 201 yards of offense (165 passing, 36 rushing) and recorded six sacks for a total loss of 30 yards.
FIRST HALF HIGHLIGHTS
- The Purple & White received the ball to start the game and drove 65 yards in eight plays, capped off by an eight-yard touchdown run by Kenny Adinkra '16 to take an early 7-0 lead. Foy completed a 34-yard pass to Jackson McGonagle '16 on the play.
- After a Bowdoin three-and-out, Amherst drove to the visitor's three-yard line but was stuffed by the Polar Bears. Charlie Wall '18 made the 20-yard field goal. He was perfect on the day, going 3-for-3 on field goals and 4-for-4 on extra-point attempts.
- On Amherst's third drive of the game, a holding penalty backed the Purple & White to their own 10-yard line. However, on the ensuing play, Foy rushed up the middle and displayed his speed as he cruised past the Bowdoin secondary on his way to a 90-yard touchdown run. The longest run from the line of scrimmage in Amherst history was 95-yards in 2004 by Fletcher Ladd '05, also against Bowdoin.
- Bowdoin got the ball back, but on its first play of the drive, Grant fumbled the hand-off and Tom Kleyn '16 jumped on the loose ball to put Amherst in good field position, taking over at the Bowdoin-21. Three plays later, Foy threw a pin-point perfect pass to Adam Wallace '16 for an 18-yard score as the Purple & White went ahead, 24-0.
- Amherst's first four possessions went touchdown-field goal-touchdown-touchdown.
- In the second quarter, Wall went 2-for-2 on field goals with kicks of 27 and 22 yards, respectively.
- Trailing by 30, Bowdoin gained possession with 4:59 to play in the half and drove 72 yards on 11 plays. Tim Drakeley found Bryan Porter in the top left corner of the end zone for the Polar Bears only score. Bowdoin's holder was unable to receive a bad snap as the extra-point attempt failed.
SECOND HALF HIGHLIGHTS
- On Amherst's second possession of the third quarter, McGonagle punted the ball 60 yards all the way to the Bowdoin-1 yard line.
- Both teams were held scoreless in the third quarter.
- Hickey led Amherst's fourth-quarter touchdown drive, which started in the third, with consecutive runs of 10 and 17 yards. He capped off the drive with a five-yard dive up the middle.
BEYOND THE BOX SCORE
- Amherst has scored 37 points in back-to-back games to open the 2015 season. The 74 points are a league-high, while Trinity ranks second with 58.
- Amherst and Bowdoin have met 93 times. The Purple & White hold a commanding 74-17-2 lead in the all-time series, and have won 16 of the last 17 meetings.
