HARTFORD, CT - The 14th-ranked Amherst College men's lacrosse team smashed host Trinity College 12-2 in the Jeffs' NESCAC opener on Saturday. Amherst senior tri-captain goalie Cushing Donelan (Noroton, CT) allowed just two scores while securing seven saves in just over 56 minutes of action, and classmate Alex Casertano (Millbrook, NY) found the net three times as the Jeffs remain undefeated at 3-0 (1-0 NESCAC), while Trinity drops to 2-2 (0-2 NESCAC).
Amherst reeled off five straight goals in the second quarter to take a 6-1 lead at the half. The Jeffs tacked on another score in the third and four more in the fourth before Bantam junior midfielder Chad Burdette (Owings Mills, MD) broke a 52-minute scoring drought with a bounce shot from 25 feet away.
Amherst junior Sean Murray (Madison, NJ) netted a pair of scores, while sophomore Chris Hofmann (New Canaan, CT) had a goal and an assist. Seniors Graham Lake (Washington, DC) and Colby Griffith (Lexington, MA), juniors Kevin Boova (Summit, NJ) and Andrew Wilcox (Ancramdale, NY), sophomore Chris Hahm (Saratoga Springs, NY) and first-year Will Ferrer (Greenwich, CT) each added goals for Amherst, while sophomore Derek Cherney (Chappaqua, NY) dished out two assists and senior Andrew Syfu (Hobart, IN), junior Ben Lavely (Louisville, KY) and rookie Chris Mottau (Holliston, MA) dealt one assist apiece.
Trinty first-year Kris Tedeschi (Norwell, MA) notched the Bantams' other score, while junior Jakob Isbrandsten (Greenwich, CT) finished with 12 saves in goal.
Amherst returns to action Wednesday at 4 p.m. at fifth-ranked NESCAC foe Tufts University.
