Thompson Lau (Pittsburgh, Pa.) of the Amherst College men's lacrosse team was named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-America At-Large Second Team, earning the prestigious honor for the third straight year.
Lau is the first student-athlete in Amherst history to earn three career Academic All-America selections, earning a place on the at-large second team in each of the last three years. He is the only three-time honoree on this year's Division III at-large teams and only the third ever Division III men's lacrosse player to earn three Academic All-America selections.
Lau graduated with distinction with a double major in economics and mathematics, boasting a 3.98 GPA. He was elected to the Phi Beta Kappa Society and was one of this year's recipients of Amherst's Psi Upsilon Prize, awarded to graduating seniors considered to be preeminent in scholarship, leadership, character and athletic ability.
On the field, the long-stick led the Mammoths with 28 caused turnovers and added 39 ground balls, with a goal and an assist to his credit as well. Lau is a three-time All-NESCAC selection who earned All-America honorable mention honors from the USILA this season after being named the Division III Long-Stick Midfielder of the Year in 2024.
The Academic All-America teams recognize the nation's top student-athletes for their combined performances on the field of play and in the classroom. The teams are selected from Academic All-District honorees by the membership of College Sports Communicators, with teams named in 14 sports and the at-large teams that cover sports not represented by their own team. This year's Division III men's at-large teams feature 45 student-athletes who compete in fencing, golf, gymnastics, ice hockey, lacrosse, skiing, volleyball, water polo and wrestling. Lau is one of 14 men's lacrosse players included on this year's Division III teams.
