HADLEY, MA. – Two members of the Amherst College men's lacrosse team were accorded All-NESCAC honors when they were announced today. Senior defenseman Thompson Lau (Pittsburg, Pa.) and senior short stick defensive midfielder Matthew Sheinberg (New Canaan, Conn.) were selected to the 2026 All-NESCAC First Team honors for their play over this season.

Lau earned his selection to the All-NESCAC team with another stellar season anchoring the Mammoths' defense. He scooped up 35 ground balls and caused 23 turnovers in 13 games this season, putting his caused turnovers per game at 1.77, a mark that ranks fifth in the NESCAC. Offensively, he notched an assist, which came against Tufts on March 7. This is his second All-conference selection, with the other being a Second Team nod in 2025.

Sheinberg collects yet another All-Conference nod in 2026. The senior defensive middie played in 15 games this season, putting up 7 goals and 6 assists for 13 total points. He also made his presence felt on the defensive side of the ball, picking up 34 ground balls.  This year marks his third All-NESCAC award, with the others being 2025 First Team and 2024 Second Team selections.

The Mammoths are 8-7, having made an appearance in the NESCAC Tournament Quarterfinals as the number four seed. With the NCAA Tournament on the horizon, Amherst currently sits at No. 17 in the NPI rankings – with their conference postseason run cut short, they will have to wait until the Selection Show on Sunday, May 3 at 9 p.m. ET to find out their tournament fate.
