Jeffs Fall to Top-Ranked Middlebury, 20-10

MIDDLEBURY, VT - The Amherst College men's lacrosse team fell at top-ranked NESCAC foe Middlebury College, 20-10, Saturday afternoon at Peter Kohn Field. Junior midfielder Matt Margolis (Short Hills, NJ) paced the Jeffs with a trio of goals. First-years Alex Casertano (Millbrook, NY) and Joaquin Walker (Denver, CO) each chipped in with a pair of strikes. David Seeley led the Panthers with seven goals and an assist. 

Middlebury exploded for nine goals in the opening quarter, including four from Seeley. The Panthers continued the attack with five more goals in the second quarter, extending their lead to 14-4 at the half. Amherst chipped into the lead with four goals in the final 2:33 of the third quarter. First-year goaltenders Cushing Donelan (Noroton, CT) and senior Jay Garvey (Watertown, NY) combined to stop 22 shots for the Jeffs. Middlebury goaltenders Erik Kreiger, Ned Courtmanche and Matt Levy tallied eight saves for the hosts. 

With the loss, Amherst drops to 3-4/0-2 while the Panthers improve 7-0/3-0. The Jeffs return to action against visiting NESCAC rival Trinity on Wednesday at 4:30 p.m.
