Amherst Wins Two Over Wesleyan

AMHERST, Massachusetts -- Amherst men's and women's lacrosse took their first steps towards Little III titles by posting wins over Wesleyan. This is the first of three matchups among Amherst-Wesleyan and Williams, the three NESCAC schools that comprise the trivalry. Wesleyan will host Williams next Saturday, while Amherst travels to face the Ephs on May 3rd.

Men's Lacrosse
Stephen Carr (Concord, MA) had two goals and eight assists to lead Amherst to a 16-3 rout over Wesleyan. Nine Lord Jeffs scored as Amherst held a 7-2 edge at the break before rattling off five goals in the third quarter. Wesleyan's David Jenkins (Mahwah, NJ) made 14 saves for the Cardinals, who fall to 5-5 for the season. The Jeffs better their record to 7-2 as the No. 21 team in the nation. Amherst will next host Connecticut College on Thursday while Wesleyan faces Trinity in Middletown, Connecticut on Wednesday.

Women's Lacrosse
Amherst survived a late-game scare to prevail 10-7 over Wesleyan at the final buzzer. Amherst led by as much as 9-1 late in the first half, before the Cardinals scored three in the six minutes around the halftime break. Jess Flynn (Newton, NJ) scored the Jeffs' lone goal of the 2nd half off Heidi Cline's (Andover, MA) third assist to bring the score to 10-4 with 21:20 to play. Margaret Metz (Sharon, CT), Andrea McKnight (Falmouth, MA) and Sarah Graboys (Brookline, MA) netted Cardinal goals in the final 13 minutes of play.
