Game Preview: Amherst (5-0) at Tufts (1-4)

Saturday, October 25 at Zimman Field at Ellis Oval, Medford, Massachusetts

  • This is the 67th renewal of the series that kicked off intercollegiate football at Amherst College. The Jeffs claimed an 8-4 victory over the Jumbos in Amherst's first football game in 1877, as the Jeffs hold a 40-22-4 lead on the rivalry.
  •
  • Today's matchup will pit two of the most offensively minded teams in the NESCAC. Amherst leads the league with 1918 offensive yards in five games while Tufts has compiled 1732 for third best. The Jeffs also are tops in the NESCAC in points scored (161) and points allowed (31), for which Amherst leads the country (6.2 per game). The Jeffs fall to second in yards allowed (969) for the first time all season after allowing Wesleyan 301 last week.
  •
  • Tufts enters the match with a 1-4 record after a heartbreaking 26-24 loss to Williams (5-0). Leading the Ephs 24-19 with less than three minutes to play, Tufts fell victim to a 81-yard drive that converted the game-winning touchdown with six seconds left on the clock.
  •
  • Last year the Jeffs posted a 31-12 victory over the Jumbos in Amherst. Fullback Bob DiSabato (Westwood, MA) posted two touchdowns as the Jeffs compiled 236 yards of rushing offense on 57 carries. Quarterback Dan Morse (Randolph, MA) ran 18-yards for the Jumbos' first touchdown in the third quarter before connecting with Matt Godfrey (Hingham, MA) to close out the game.
