Junior middle distance runner Piper Lentz capped the outdoor track season with a New England championship, two school records and All-America honors.
Lentz began the month of May by winning a New England Division III championship in record time, anchoring the 4x800m relay alongside teammates Julia Schor, Sylvan Wold and Zoë Marcus. The Amherst quartet's time of 9:03.53 was a meet record for the NED3 Championships as well as an Amherst program record. Lentz also earned All-New England honors in the 400m at that meet with a sixth-place finish.
Lentz broke another record at the MIT Final Qualifier, running the 800m in 2:08.21 to establish a new Amherst school record.
That time qualified Lentz for the NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships, where she finished 15th in the nation in the 800m to earn Second Team All-America honors for the second time in her career.
A double major in astronomy and physics from Sparks, Maryland, Lentz is a two-time NESCAC champion in the 4x800m relay and a member of the NESCAC All-Academic Team.
