Senior Ellis Phillips-Gallucci earned All-America honors with an eighth-place finish in the 400m hurdles at the NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championships, capping his Amherst career in style after setting an Amherst school record earlier in the month.
Phillips-Gallucci broke the Amherst school record in the 400m hurdles, running a time of 52.31 seconds at the NEICAAA Championships on May 12 to break the school record that had stood since 1996.
That mark was the best of the season in the Mideast Region and fifth-best in the nation across Division III, earning Phillips-Gallucci his first berth in the national championships, where he won his preliminary heat before finishing eighth in the finals to earn All-America honors.
A philosophy major from Willimantic, Connecticut, Phillips-Gallucci also ran as part of the Mammoths' 4x400m relay team, which posted the top regional performance in the 4x400m relay with a time of 3:16.78 at the MIT Final Qualifier on May 18 and earned All-NEICAAA honors at the NEICAAA Championships.
