First-year Eliza Cardwell of the Amherst College women's track and field team swept the hurdles races in her NESCAC Championship debut, winning the conference titles in both the 100m hurdles and 400m hurdles in record-setting fashion.

Cardwell won the 100m hurdles in 14.30 seconds after running a 14.23 in the prelims to set a NESCAC meet record and Amherst school record. She won the 400m hurdles with a collegiate-best time of 1:02.66. Cardwell also placed fourth in the long jump to score a total of 25 points for the Mammoths and earn the NESCAC Most Outstanding Rookie award.

Cardwell's times in both hurdles races ranked ninth nationally in Division III so far this season. Earlier in April, she swept the hurdles races at the Amherst Spring Fling and won the 400m hurdles at the Silfen Invitational.

The Charlotte, North Carolina, native won the New England Division III Championship in the 60m hurdles in the indoor season and qualified for the NCAA Division III Championship, where she finished ninth in the nation.
