Senior captain Marie Fagan of the Amherst College women's swimming and diving team won the NESCAC Championship in the 200-yard freestyle, breaking her own Amherst record in the event.
Fagan's winning time of 2:00.58 in the 200-yard butterfly broke her Amherst record by over a second in the third straight NESCAC Championship in which she has set a new record. Her time is the best in the nation in Division III this season and earned her the top seed at the upcoming NCAA Division III Championships as well as setting the pool record at Colby's new aquatics center.
Fagan also qualified for the NCAA Championships in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 55.57, which is tied for 17th-best in the nation. A psychology and sociology double major from South Orange, New Jersey, Fagan has earned four career All-NESCAC honors, awarded to the top three finishers in each event at the NESCAC Championships, and has qualified for the NCAA Championships after each of her three seasons of competition.
