Mammoth women in 4th place after Round 1 of George Phinney Classic

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. – The Amherst College women's golf team competed in Day 1 of the George Phinney Jr. Classic Intercollegiate Golf Invitational Saturday.

 The Mammoths competed at the Ralph Myhre Golf Course hosted by Middlebury College. The team started their round with a 12:30 P.M. shotgun start and finished tied for 4th place with Bowdoin College. Both teams finished with a total score of 316, or 32 over par (the course is a par 71). Leading the tournament is Hamilton College with a team score of 303, or 19 over par.

On the individual leaderboard, freshman Joanna Song leads the Mammoths, firing a 77, or 6 over par. Despite a shaky start, Song finished her round strong, shooting an impressive 1-over par through 17 holes. Notably, Song birdied holes 8 and 18, both difficult par 4s. Song is individually tied for 7th place out of 66 players. Following close behind, sophomore Emma Lindemoen fired a 78, or 7 over par, and also birdied hole 18. Senior Abigail Kim shot a 79, and birdied hole 8 along with Song. Freshman Judy Wu shot 82, and finished her round strong with a birdie on hole 17. Freshman Eve Krinsky follows, shooting 87.

Playing as an individual, sophomore Renna Chang shot 83, and finished her round strong by birding her last hole. Also playing as an individual, junior Karolyn Zeng shot 90.

The Mammoths are looking to fight back and climb the leaderboard tomorrow. The team will start their second and final round tomorrow with a 9:30 A.M. shotgun start at the Ralph Myhre Golf Course.
