Mammoths Sit In 2nd after Day 1 of NESCAC Championship

WILLIAMSTOWN, MA -- The Amherst College women's golf team competed in Day 1 of the 2026 NESCAC Championship tournament. The Mammoths competed against seven other NESCAC teams at Taconic Golf Course, hosted by Williams College. The Mammoths began play in the early afternoon, and after the first day sit in 2nd place at +24 over par. Leading the tournament is Middlebury College at +21 over par, and trailing behind the Mammoths in 3rd place is Williams College at +26 over. 

On the individual leaderboard, sophomore Joelle Kim and sophomore Mekhala Costello lead the Mammoths. Both fired a +4 over par for 75 (the course is a par 71), and sit in T-3rd place out of 39 players. Kim and Costello both had three birdies for the day, and both finished strong with a birdie on 18. Kim and Costello sit two strokes behind the leader from Middlebury College who shot 73, or +2 over par. 

Following Kim and Costello, Freshman Renna Chang followed closely behind firing a 77. Freshman Emma Lindemoen and Sophomore Jia An both shot 81. 

The Mammoths, #5 in the nation, are back in action tomorrow with another afternoon start at Taconic Golf Course for round two of the NESCAC Championship. The Mammoths are hoping to gain some strokes back and climb the leaderboard.
