BOSTON, Mass. -- In a display of depth, grit, and record-breaking performances, the Amherst College men's track & field team climbed to the top of the podium this weekend, capturing the New England Division III Indoor Championship with a commanding total of 103 points. In a field of elite programs, Amherst proved they were the class of the region, fueled by a relentless string of personal bests and school records.

Dominance in the Distance

The distance crew set the tone early, particularly in the 5,000-meter run. Carter Bengtson delivered a masterclass in pacing and toughness, capturing the individual title with a blistering time of 14:35.08. He was well-supported by Harrison Dow, who secured a vital 4th-place finish in 14:38.82, ensuring a massive points haul for the team.

The momentum continued in the 1,000-meter run, where Parker Boyle etched his name into the history books. Boyle didn't just win; he shattered the meet record with a stunning 2:24.73 that placed #2 all time in the NCAA D3. Meanwhile, Stan Craig showed his range and tenacity in the 3,000m, placing 3rd in 8:22.33, and Ben Davis added more points to the board with a strong 5th-place finish in the 800m (1:52.24).

Speed and Power: The Record Breakers

The sprints and hurdles saw the Amherst record books rewritten multiple times in a single afternoon. Jordan Harrison was a force of nature, clocking a 6.80 in the 60m to set a new school record and personal record (PR). Not far behind, Alexander Nichols posted a PR of 6.98. The duo also dominated the 200m, with Nichols (21.99) and Harrison (21.98) both clocking lifetime bests.

Cody Pierce also had a weekend for the ages, setting a new school record in the 200m with a lightning-fast 21.56, while also placing 5th in the 400m (48.73). In the hurdles, Keason rose to the occasion, setting a school record and PR of 8.29 to finish 4th overall in the 60m hurdles.

Strength in the Field

Amherst's victory was cemented by a "1-2 punch" in the weight throw. Charlie Spurell took the crown with a massive toss of 17.39m for the first time over his four years at Amherst, followed immediately by teammate Gavin Schmidt, who took 2nd with 17.30m.

In the jumps, Michael Abbey Jr. provided one of the highlights of the meet. With a leap of 14.57m, Abbey Jr. set both a school record and a PR in the triple jump. In the long jump, Kaleb soared to 6.94m, earning 4th place and moving to 4th all-time in program history.

The Power of the Relay

True championships are won by teams, and the relay squads embodied that spirit. The distance medley relay (DMR) took 4th place in 10:12.76, while the 4x800m relay fought hard to place 7th in 7:51.68. Every second shaved off and every place earned contributed to the 103-point total that eventually hoisted the championship trophy.
