Abbey Jr. Shatters School Record as Amherst Men Dominate MNESCI

BOSTON, Mass. — Junior Michael Abbey Jr. etched his name into the history books and the Amherst College men's track and field team secured a massive haul of championship standards at the New England Small College Invitational (MNESCI) on Sunday. Competing at the Track at New Balance, the Mammoths combined for multiple national-tier marks and a flurry of automatic qualifications for the postseason.

Field & Hurdles Highlights
The performance of the meet came in the triple jump, where Michael Abbey Jr. set a new Amherst indoor school record with a winning leap of 14.40m (49-03.00). This mark is an auto-qualifying time for the New England DIII Championships and currently ranks 18th nationally.

Sprints & Middle Distance

The Mammoths' speed was on full display as several athletes punched their tickets to the postseason:

  • Jordan Harrison placed third in the 60m dash with a time of 6.93, officially securing an auto-qualifying time.

  • Ian Irwin posted a qualifying time in the 60 m dash with a time of 6.97. 

  • Cody Pierce won the 400m dash in 48.78 (auto-qualifying time) and added an auto-qualifying time in the 200m dash, winning in 21.87.

  • LJ Maslowski hit a new personal record on the 200M of 22.28 coming in 5th overall. 

  • Parker Boyle led the distance unit, placing second in the mile with a PR of 4:09.90—an auto-qualifying time that ranks 19th in the nation. In the Mile, Henry Dennen and Wil Reeves also posted provisional marks for the New England Indoor Championship. 

  • Ben Davis (1:54.52) and Will Peterson (1:55.55) placed second and third in the 800m, both hitting the provisional qualifying standard.

Distance & Relays

Carter Bengtson won the 3000m run in 14:52.47 (Provisional Qualifying time), leading a group that included Harrison Dow (2nd, 15:02.39 PR), Caleb, and Jacob, who all hit provisional qualifying standards. On the relay side, the 4x800m team placed second in 7:56.55 (provisional qualifying standard), while the 4x400m team also took second overall.

UP NEXT:
The Mammoths will be at Tufts next weekend for the Tufts 7-Way on February 7. Following that the Mammoths will split up between Boston University and Tufts for the BU Valentine and Tufts Cupid and Multi Meets on February 13-14th.
