MIDDLEBURY, Vt. — The Amherst College men's track and field team picked up wins in the weight throw and distance medley relay, while sophomores
Christoph Osselmann-Chai and
Matt Kasper soared to automatic qualifying marks for the New England Division III Championships as the Mammoths competed in the Middlebury Winter Classic on Friday and Saturday on the flat track at Virtue Field House.
No team scores were tallied in the meet that featured men's teams from seven different institutions, representing all three NCAA divisions as well as a Canadian squad.
The Mammoths are back in action next weekend, competing in the Massasoit Classic at Springfield on Saturday, Jan. 24.
MEET HIGHLIGHTS:
* The Mammoths won the distance medley relay with the third-fastest time in Division III so far this season. Senior

Stan Craig clocked in at 10:26.69 to beat out two quartets from Division I Vermont.
* Competing in his first collegiate weight throw, sophomore
Gavin Schmidt won the event with a toss of 15.53m, a provisional qualifying mark for the NED3 Championships.
* Osselmann-Chai automatically qualified for New Englands in the pole vault, clearing 4.45m to finish second in the event with an indoor personal best.
* Kasper automatically qualified for New Englands in the triple jump with an indoor personal-best mark of 13.50m to place third.
* Davis provisionally qualified for New Englands in the 400m, winning his heat with a time of 50.56 to place second overall.
* Three Mammoths posted provisional qualifying marks in the 1000m, led by a third-place finish from senior
Will Nagy in a personal-best 2:34.16. First-year
Will Peterson placed seventh in his first collegiate 1000m race in 2:35.69 and sophomore
Finn O'Hara clocked in at 2:38.33 to claim 11th place.
* Three Mammoths notched provisional qualifying scores in the heptathlon as sophomore
Keason Ky placed fifth with 3949 points. Ky's time of 8.52 in the 60m hurdles is 10th among all NED3 marks so far this season, a provisional qualifying mark in that event. First-year
Marshall Dunahoe was seventh with 3653 points and classmate
Isaiah Robinson was eighth with 3641 points as both rookies were making their collegiate debuts.
