Neville named D3hoops.com Regional Rookie of the Year

First-year guard K.J. Neville of the Amherst College men's basketball team has been named the Region 1 Rookie of the year by D3hoops.com.

Neville led the Mammoths in scoring this season, averaging 10.8 points per game to go along with 4.3 rebounds and 2.1 assists per game. He shot 44.9 percent from the floor and was 40.3 percent on three-point attempts.

Highlights of Neville's rookie campaign included scoring a season-high 18 points in a 71-50 win over Bates on Jan. 9, hitting the game-winning free throws to cap a 15-point effort in a 65-64 win over Colby on Jan. 30 and contributing 16 points in his NCAA Tournament debut, a 63-46 win over WPI on March 6. Neville played over 10 minutes in all 27 games this season and quickly earned a spot in the starting lineup, making 19 starts including the final 18 games of the season. He tallied 17 double-figure scoring games and two double-doubles.

The North Memphis, Tennessee, native also earned NESCAC Rookie of the Year honors this season as he helped power a resurgent Amherst squad that finished the season 19-8 and reached the round of 32 in the NCAA Tournament.
