Mammoths put up strong swims, defeat Union College

AMHERST, MASS – The Amherst College swim and dive team defeated the Chargers of Union College, 238-54, on Saturday afternoon. The Mammoths won every event in the meet, taking first through third place in 9 different events.

The Mammoths will return to the pool next Saturday, January 10th, at 1:00 pm as they head to Williamstown to face NESCAC rival, Williams College.


MEET HIGHLIGHTS

  • Paige Arnold had a strong meet, earning three first-place finishes. Arnold won the 200-yard freestyle, 100-yard freestyle, and the 100-yard butterfly. Arnold was joined on the podium by Sydney Thompson and Penny Lazar in the 100-yard freestyle.

  • Senior Joline Fong also had a dominant meet, finishing first in both the 100 and 200-yard breaststroke. In both events, the Mammoths finished in the top three. In the 100-yard breaststroke, Fong was joined by Ava Liu and Kaya Tray. In the 200-yard breaststroke, Hope Taylor finished second, and Liu finished in third.

  • Ava Insteness and Ariya Snelwar went 1-2 in the 500 freestyle. Snelwar also finished first in the 200-yard butterfly, swimming a 2:14.03.

  • Amherst divers earned 32 points for the Mammoths on the day, finishing first through third in both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events.

  • The Mammoths also controlled the podium in the 50-yard freestyle. Thompson earned the first-place finish, swimming a 24.64. Lucy Smith and Alex Zorn earned second and third place, swimming a 25.08 and 25.78, respectively.

  • The Mammoths also had strong relay swims. In the 200-yard medley relay, Amherst earned first through third. In the 200-yard freestyle relay, the Mammoths finished first and second.
