Amherst bests Springfield College on Senior Day

AMHERST, MASS – The Mammoths had multiple school and pool records in today's meet to help lift the Mammoths to victory over Springfield College, 181-54. The Mammoths also honored five seniors in today's Senior Day celebration.

With the win over Springfield, the Mammoths advance to 4-2 on the season. The Mammoths will swim again tomorrow, Saturday, January 24th, against WPI and Roger Williams. The meet is at WPI and will begin at 11:00 am. 

 

MEET HIGHLIGHTS

  • Paige Arnold set a school record and pool record in the 100-yard IM, swimming a 57.85 and taking first place. Arnold also set a pool record in the 100-yard freestyle, touching first with a time of 51.31.

  • Another pool record was set in today's meet in the 200-yard freestyle relay, swam by Sydney Thompson, Paige Arnold, Lucy Smith, and Diane Koo. The team took first place with a time of 1:35.89.

  • First-year Penny Lazar and sophomore Taryn Veronda went 1-2 in the 500 freestyle, earning 13 points for the Mammoths.

  • The Mammoths placed top three in the 200-yard freestyle with Ava Insteness taking first place, Emory Tudor taking second, and Hope Taylor earning third place. The Mammoths also took the top three spots in the 50 freestyle. Thompson placed first, swimming a 23.94. Lucy Smith and Annie Chang earned second and third place, respectively.

  • In the 1-meter diving, senior Donna Zhang placed first, and Brooke Ronan earned second place. Ronan also placed first in the 3-meter diving. 

  • Multiple seniors earned first-place finishes during today's Senior Day meet. Diane Koo placed first in the 100-yard butterfly, swimming a time of 58.52. Tudor took first place in the 100-yard backstroke, swimming a 59.30, and Joline Fong placed first in the 100-yard breaststroke, with a time of 1:05.97.
