Amherst posts strong swims in Menck Invitational

WORCESTER, MASS – The Amherst Women's swim and dive team had a host of strong swims in their second meet of the weekend. Amherst swam against Worcester Polytechnic Institute and Roger Williams University in the Menck Invitational.

The Mammoths will look to keep their momentum next weekend when they head to Cambridge to swim against MIT. The meet is on Saturday, January 31st, at 1:00 pm. 

MEET HIGHLIGHTS:

  • The Mammoths had strong showings in the relays in today's meet, with their A-teams placing first in the 200-yard freestyle relay and the 100-yard freestyle relay. Amherst placed second in the 100-yard medley relay.

  • In the 100-yard freestyle, Amherst took the first three spots. Penny Lazar touched first with a time of 53.83. Diane Koo earned second, swimming a 55.34, and Kaya Tray finished third with a time of 55.49.

  • The Mammoths also dominated the podium in the 200-yard backstroke. Taryn Veronda finished first, Hope Taylor placed second, and Emory Tudor earned third place.

  • Maeve Kelly and Alex Zorn went 1-2 in the 100-yard butterfly, with Kelly swimming a 56.55 and Zorn swimming a time of 1:00.26.

  • Ava Liu and Sydney Thompson also finished 1-2 in the 50-yard breaststroke. Liu swam a 31.11, while Thompson finished in 31.55.

  • In the 200-yard freestyle, Paige Arnold took first place, finishing with a time of 1:51.14. Insteness and Lazar finished second and third, respectively.

  • Three Mammoths had strong swims in the 200-yard IM, with Insteness swimming a 2:11.04 to finish first. Annie Chang took second place with a time of 2:15.83, and Sabrina Victor finished third with a time of 2:20.01. Victor also finished in second place in the 100-yard IM.

  • Donna Zhang and Brooke Ronan finished first and second, respectively, in both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events. Zhang posted a finals score of 401.48 in the 1-meter and 426.44 in the 3-meter.
