SAN DIEGO – Two alums of the Amherst College men's lacrosse team competed in the World Lacrosse Men's Championship this summer in San Diego, each helping their teams reach the quarterfinals of the tournament. Ian Kadish '18 competed for Israel and Evan Redwood '12 played for Jamaica in the quadrennial event, which ran from June 21 to July 1 and featured 30 teams competing to be crowned world champion.
Appearing in his second World Championship with Israel, Kadish took face-offs and played in the midfield, helping the Israeli squad to an undefeated run through Pool C and a first-round playoff win over Ireland. Kadish scored goals in a 12-6 win over Puerto Rico and a 14-4 win over Czech Republic. A former captain of the Mammoths who spent a season as an assistant coach after graduating, Kadish currently serves as executive director of the Israel Lacrosse Association.
Redwood also competed in his second World Championship for Jamaica. The attack scored a goal in a 6-4 win over Poland, helping the Jamaicans go unbeaten to finish atop Pool D before a first-round playoff win over Italy. Redwood was a two-year captain and a three-time All-NESCAC selection at Amherst. He has also coached with the Jamaica Lacrosse Association.
Kadish and Redwood concluded the tournament with their squads facing each other in the seventh-place game, an 8-7 overtime victory for Israel. Israel placed seventh for the third straight tournament, while the eighth-place finish was Jamaica's best finish yet in their second championship appearance.
