AMHERST, Mass. -- Amherst College swept all six singles flights and defeated Brandeis University 8-1 in non-conference women's tennis action on Friday afternoon at the Amherst Tennis Courts.
Amherst (8-4) hosts Williams College tomorrow at noon as they return to New England Small College Athletic Confernece (NESCAC) play.
It was a tight start to the match as Amherst's first doubles team of Anya Ivenitsky '20 and Avery Wagman '18 snuck past Sabrina Neergaard and Keren Khromchenko 9-7, while Brandeis got on the board with an 8-6 victory from Lauren Bertsch and Olivia Leavitt at #2.
The Mammoths got rolling with an 8-1 victory by Camille Smukler '20 and Maddie Dewire '20 over Michele Lehat and Haley Cohen at third doubles, and the momentum rolled into singles action.
None of the Amherst student-athletes allowed more than two games in a set in six straight-set decisions.
Smukler was a 6-1, 6-1 winner over Neergaard at the top position, and Dewire and Wagman won by 6-2, 6-2 scores at #3 and #5, respectively.
Vickie Ip '18 took care of Khromchenko 6-1, 6-2 at #2 and Camilla Trapness '19 won by an identical score over Lehat at #6.
Ivenitsky took a reverse route at #4 singles, defeating Leavitt 6-2, 6-1.
Brandeis, ranked No. 22 in the country, falls to 7-5 on the year, and will travel to Skidmore tomorrow for a 2:00 pm match.
