MAMMOTHS FALL TO #1 ATHENAS, 5-2

3/18/2026 8:25:00 PM

CLAREMONT, CA— The #14 Amherst College women's tennis team put up a spirited fight against #1 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps on Wednesday at the Biszantz Family Tennis Center, but fell 5–2 to the nation's top-ranked program to move to 3–3 on the season. Back-to-back losses to #7 Pomona-Pitzer and #1 CMS make for a challenging middle stretch of the California trip, though Amherst showed it could compete at the highest level with its strong doubles showing and several tight singles matches.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • Amherst stole the early momentum by winning two of three doubles courts to claim the point heading into singles. Katja Jules Viberg and Cody Huang teamed for a 6–4 win at #2, while Greta Stechschulte and Sophie Diop were dominant at #3 with a clean 6–2 victory, a strong start against the nation's top team.
  • Tina She, playing at #1 singles for the first time this spring, delivered Amherst's biggest individual result of the trip, rallying from a second-set loss to beat Lindsay Eisenman 6–3, 3–6, 6–2 in a gutsy three-set win. Cody Huang came very close to adding a second point at #3, taking the first set 7–5 and holding two match points late in the third, but Ananya Sriniketh edged out the tiebreak 11–9 to deny Huang in a heartbreaking finish.?
