NESCAC WEEKLY RELEASE
HADLEY, Mass. - For the second time in three weeks, Andrew Vandini '16 of the Amherst College baseball team was named the NESCAC Player of the Week, as announced Monday by the league office.
Vandini played a crucial role in the team's 5-1 week, as he went 11-for-26 (.423) from the plate with a .483 on-base percentage, a .769 slugging percentage and nine runs scored. The junior hit two home runs in that span, and recorded two four-RBI games, with 10 total. Vandini also drove in two game-winning runs against Hamilton. In game one of the weekend series, tied at 3-3, he a hit a RBI single as the Jeffs went on to win, 5-3. The following day, he cleared the bases with a three-RBI double to left center to break a 2-2 tie as Amherst claimed game two of the series, 5-2.
The junior infielder also went 4-for-5 against Framingham State earlier in the week, and recorded four RBI, two doubles, one home run and scored five times as the Jeffs claimed a decisive 18-9 victory.
Vandini currently ranks second in the NESCAC in RBI (42), fifth in doubles (9), sixth in slugging percentage (.639), 11th in on-base percentage (.466) and 14th in batting average (.371), and has helped Amherst improve to 18-7 overall with a perfect 9-0 league mark.
The Jeffs conclude their regular-season conference schedule this weekend in a crucial three-game series against Wesleyan. The first game is scheduled for Friday, April 24 at 4 p.m.
