AMHERST, Mass. – Senior co-captain and defensive back Chris Gow of the Amherst College football team has been named a 2015 College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) Academic All-DistrictTM First Team selection for his stellar performance both athletically and in the classroom.
The Academic All-DistrictTM teams are divided into eight geographic districts across the United States and Canada. As a first team honoree from District 1, Gow automatically advances to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® Team ballot, which will be selected later this month.
Gow, a mathematics major with a 3.79 grade-point average, has been a key component to Amherst's success. A leader on one of the NESCAC's top defenses, Gow has amassed 27 tackles (20 solo) in six games – good for 4.5 per game. He also has an interception on the season, and has helped hold opponents to 191.3 passing yards per game and a mere 10.8 points per game to rank second in the conference in both categories.
Amherst (6-0) puts its undefeated record on the line Saturday when it hosts undefeated Trinity (6-0) on Family Weekend. Kickoff on Pratt Field at Lehrman Stadium is scheduled for 1 p.m. Prior to the game, the Purple & White will recognize their 20-member senior class.
