Box Score AMHERST, Mass. – Junior guard Connor Green scored his 1,000th career point Tuesday night and helped lead the 25th-ranked Amherst College men's basketball team to a decisive 69-46 win over Wesleyan University at LeFrak Gymnasium.
With the win, the Jeffs improve to 10-3 overall, while dropping the Cardinals to 11-4 on the year. Tuesday's game did not count towards the NESCAC standings, as both teams remain 1-1 in league play.
Green scored 17 points to become the 28th player in Amherst men's basketball history to reach the 1,000 point mark as he moved ahead of Scott Saft '89 with 1,005 total. He also grabbed nine rebounds in the game. Joining him with a game-high 17 points was Johnny McCarthy '18, who went 7-for-11 from the floor and 3-for-5 from downtown. The first-year guard recorded his second consecutive double-double, grabbing a game-high 11 rebounds, and also dished out a season-high five assists. Forward David George '17 registered his fifth double-double of the season with 10 points and 10 rebounds, and guard Jayde Dawson '18 added another 12 points.

Both teams struggled to find the basket in the early minutes of the first half. A dunk by Kuo at the 18:18 mark was the first score of the game, and a lay-up roughly two minutes later by Edmonds put the visitor's ahead, 4-0.
After 4:22 of scoreless play, George eventually put the Jeffs on the board with a free throw, and a three-pointer by McCarthy seconds later knotted the game at 4-4. Wesleyan regained a lead on their next possession, but Green responded and hit one from downtown to put the home team back up as they never looked back.
Leading by three with 5:46 to go in the first half, Amherst rallied off seven straight points in just under two minutes of play to take a 10-point lead. They eventually entered the locker room ahead, 30-22.
The Purple & White increased their lead to 13 as they opened the second half on a 5-0 run following a lay-up by George and a three-pointer by McCarthy. However, the Cardinals cut the lead to as low as seven at the 14:50 mark on a dunk by Kuo.
Amherst regained a double-digit lead, which they held for six minutes, until a free throw by Kuo with 8:22 put the Cardinals down 47-38. It was the smallest margin the rest of the way as McCarthy hit a jumper to jump start an 11-2 run to go ahead by 18 with just over four minutes to play in regulation as they pulled away with the 69-46 win.
As a team, the Jeffs shot 25-of-60 (41.7%) from the floor and held a decisive 48-29 rebounding edge. They held Wesleyan to just 2-of-15 (13.3%) shooting from behind-the-arc and 19-of-52 (35.2%) shooting from the floor.
The Purple & White return to LeFrak Gymnasium Friday, Jan. 16 and will host Tufts. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
