Jeffs Post 13-7 Victory Over Keene State

CLERMONT, FL - The Amherst College men's lacrosse team improved to 2-0 with its 13-7 victory over non-conference opponent Keene State College in Clermont, Florida on Wednesday. Amherst first-year Derek Cherney (Chappaqua, NY) and juniors Andrew Syfu (Hobart, IN) and Alex Casertano (Millbrook, NY) led the way offensively, netting two goals apiece, while Syfu dished out three assists, Casertano dealt two and Cherney had one. 

Keene St. led early, posting a 2-1 edge in the first quarter, but Amherst responded with a seven-goal explosion in the second to take firm control of the contest. Amherst junior Bryan Hiller (Wantagh, NY) and sophomore Sean Murray (Madison, NJ) each had a goal and an assist, and first-year Chris Hofmann (New Canaan, CT) netted his second goal of the year. Also scoring for the Jeffs were juniors Greg Donohue (Bow, NH) and Graham Lake (Washington, DC), and first-years Stephen Williams (Scituate, MA) and Chris Hahm (Saratoga Springs, NY). Sophomore Kevin Boova (Summit, NJ) and junior Joaquin Walker (Denver, CO) each had an assist as well. 

Amherst junior Cushing Donelan (Noroton, CT) and sophomore Raul Altreche (Bronx, NY) collected a combined 10 saves in goal. 

The Jeffs return to action Friday at 1 p.m. against non-conference foe Nazareth College in Orlando, Florida.
