PORT RICHEY, FL – After suffering a 13-10 loss in their season-opener on Tuesday, the Amherst men's lacrosse team rebounded on Wednesday by crushing non-league foe Keene State College, 18-2, in Port Richey, Florida. The Jeffs (1-1) placed 12 different players in the scoring column and didn't allow a goal until midway through the second half.
Senior midfielder Harlow Voorhees (Chevy Chase, MD) paced Amherst for the second straight game with a trio of scoring strikes. He now has a team-high six goals on the season. Sophomore attackman Andrew Meeks (Salisbury, MD) added two goals and three assists, while fellow sophs Mike Allison (W. Nyack, NY) and Craig McBeth (Wyckoff, NJ) chipped in with two goals and a pair of assists each. Junior attackman Chris Condlin (Baltimore, MD) joined the barrage with a two-goal game, and first-year Alex Casertano (Millbrook, NY) tacked on a goal and three assists.
Meanwhile, first-years Michael Strong (Wayne, PA), Bryan Hiller (Wantagh, NY) and Joaquin Walker (Denver, CO), juniors Tucker Sowers (Ridgfield, NJ) and Matt Margolis (Short Hills, NJ), and senior Damon Talbott (Springfield, VA) rounded out the Amherst attack with a goal each.
Amherst rookie goaltender Cushing Donelan (Noroton, CT) went largely untested, turning away five shots in the first half. Senior netminder Jay Garvey (Watertown, NY) played the entire second half and finished with a career-high seven saves.
The Jeffs will remain in Port Richey until Friday, when they take on Hamilton College in a non-conference tilt at 7 p.m.
