Everden Nets 350th as Jeffs Down Trinity, 3-1

MEDFORD, MA - Amherst College head volleyball coach Sue Everden netted her 350th career win with a 3-1 victory over Trinity College as part of a NESCAC quad match at Tufts University on Friday night. The win moved Everden's overall career record to 350-153 in 13 seasons at Amherst, improving the Jeffs' record this season to 17-2 overall and 7-1 in NESAC play and extending their current winning streak to 10 matches.

Trinity (10-10/4-3) tested Amherst with four close games (30-20, 30-24, 27-30, 32-30) as Jeffs' senior co-captain Erica Hewes (Pebble Beach, CA) led the way with a match-high 22 kills. Classmate and fellow co-captain Meredith DeMeules (Los Angeles, CA) ran the offense with 22 assists to go along with 11 digs and 10 kills for her third triple-double of the season. Meanwhile, first-year setter Annie Hoeksma (Los Angeles, CA) was similarly impressive with 15 digs, 13 assists and five kills, and sophomore middle blocker Natalie Brooks (Catonsville, MD) added a match-high 7.0 blocks.

In other NESCAC quad action, Wesleyan University blanked host Tufts 3-0, while Trinity rebounded for a 3-0 win over Connecticut College. Quad play will continue on Saturday with Conn. taking on Amherst and Wesleyan battling Trinity at 11 a.m., followed by Conn. vs. Tufts and Wesleyan vs. Amherst at 1 p.m., and - in the afternoon's late match - Tufts hosting Trinity at 3 p.m.

An Amherst win over Conn. and a Wesleyan win over Trinity would set up a pivotal matchup between Wesleyan and Amherst for the No. 1 seed in the upcoming NESCAC Championship Tournament. Amherst and Wesleyan are currently tied for first place in the NESCAC with matching 7-1 conference marks.
