Mammoths take down Wellesley College in straight sets

AMHERST, Mass – In their final home game of the regular season, the Amherst College volleyball team defeated the Blue of Wellesley College in three straight sets (25-23, 25-11, 25-14).

After today's victory, the Mammoths move to 7-8 on the season (2-6 NESCAC). The Mammoths will look to continue their win streak as they head to Middlebury this Friday, October 31st. The Mammoths will face off against Middlebury College at 7 pm in Pepin Gymnasium. 

MATCH HIGHLIGHTS

* The first set was the closest of the match, with both teams trading points through the beginning of the set. Chideraa Ngwadom got the scoring started for the Mammoths, earning a kill and an ace. Sofia Camilo and Addison Lau each had big kills to keep the scoring coming for Amherst. Late in the set, the Blue had a 4-point run to narrow the score to 20-18 in favor of the Mammoths. Alexandra Trofort and Brielle Renwick combined for a crucial block, and Trofort notched a kill to give the Mammoths the set, 25-23. 

* The Mammoths came out to a commanding lead in the second set, with Bailey Reid earning two aces, and Ngwadom and Camilo combining for a block. With the score at 10-7 for the Mammoths, Amherst scored on the next 10 of 11 plays, giving them a strong 20-8 lead. The Mammoths kept their momentum and took the set with a kill from Camilo and two more aces from Reid.

* In the final set, the Mammoths hit 0.407%, their highest hitting percentage on the match. The Mammoths started off strong, taking a 10-3 lead off of kills from Lau, Renwick, Camilo, and Hines. The Mammoths had a 7-point run in the middle of the set with 3 kills by Camilo and another ace from Reid, lifting the Mammoths to a 20-6 lead. The Mammoths closed the match with two strong kills from Hines and Tiana Richardson.

* Camilo had 10 kills in the match, leading the Mammoths and hitting .643 on the day.

* Reid earned 5 service aces on the day.

* Judith Subirats-Bosch led the Mammoths in assists, earning 18 on the day.
