AMHERST, MA. – Sophomores
Jan Ebbinge (Queensland, New Zealand) and
Andre Zhang (Davis, Calif.), and first-year
Thomas Zhang (Vancouver, British Columbia) of the Amherst men's golf team were all honored with PING All-Region One selections when they were announced earlier this week.
Ebbinge collects yet another award after a sophomore season in which he consistently placed high in the standings. His strongest individual performances of the year were a medalist finish at the Farmingdale State College Spring Invitational with a total score of 3-under over two days of competition and placing tied for 13th at NESCAC Championships (+14 over three rounds).
A. Zhang earned his selection by putting down a number of notable performances: highlights include finishing tied for fifth at NESCAC Championships (+10 over 54 holes), and winning the Dr. Tim Brown Invitational at Skidmore College with a total score of 2-under par for the weekend.
T. Zhang burst onto the scene this year with a series of big weekends earning him the All-Region nod. The rookie tied for ninth at NESCAC Championships with a +12 over three rounds and finished second at the Skidmore Invitational last fall with a total score of 4-under over three rounds.
The Mammoths concluded another successful season with a fourth-place finish at NESCAC Championships at the end of April. The team's season highlights included being named Co-Champions of the Little Three, and winning the Duke Nelson (at Middlebury), Bowdoin, and Skidmore invitationals this fall.
