MIDDLEBURY, VT. — The #18 Amherst College women's tennis team opened NESCAC tournament play with a 4–1 win over No. 17 Tufts on Friday morning at Middlebury College, advancing to the semifinals with another strong postseason performance. Amherst took the doubles point by winning at Nos. 2 and 3 after dropping No. 1 doubles, then got singles wins from Tina She, Greta Stechschulte, and sophomore Cody Huang, who clinched the match at No. 3.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • After Tufts earned a 6–1 win at No. 1 doubles, Amherst answered immediately with wins on the other two courts to take the doubles point. Karolina Dobiecka and Tina She handled No. 2 doubles 6–1, while Sophie Diop and Greta Stechschulte won 6–2 at No. 3 to flip the early momentum in Amherst's favor.
  • Amherst then got a dominant start in singles from Tina She, who rolled to a 6–0, 6–3 win at No. 1. Greta Stechschulte added another straight-set victory at No. 4, and Cody Huang sealed the team win with a 6–4, 6–3 result at No. 3 singles. That clincher was especially significant because Amherst had already beaten Tufts 4–3 in the regular season, and the Mammoths backed it up with another postseason win.
  • Amherst also stayed competitive on the unfinished courts. Sophie Diop was down 6–2, 4–5 at No. 2 when play stopped, and Rachel Roth had split sets at No. 5 after taking the first 6–4 before the match was abandoned. At No. 6, Sameera Talwar was Amherst's lone singles loss, falling to Natalie Hu in straight sets.
