EAST HADDAM, CT -- The Amherst College men's golf team competed in Day 1 of the 2026 NESCAC Championship tournament. The Mammoths competed against nine other NESCAC teams at Fox Hopyard Golf Course, hosted by Trinity College. The Mammoths began play in the afternoon, and after the first day sit in T-5 at +27 over par.
Leading the tournament is Tufts College at +14 over par, closely followed by Williams College at +16 over par.Â
On the individual leaderboard, sophomore
Andre Zhang leads the Mammoths firing a +1 for 72 (the course is a par 71), sitting in 2nd place out of 50 players. Zhang had an impressive back 9, finishing his round with two back-to-back birdies. Zhang sits one shot behind the leader from Williams College who shot 71, or even par.Â
Following Zhang, sophomore
Jan Ebbinge shot 76, with a notable eagle on hole 5. Freshman
Thomas Zhang follows shooting an 80. Senior
Mark Vitels and senior
John Beskid both shot 83.Â
The Mammoths, #47 in the nation, are back in action tomorrow with another afternoon start at the Fox Hopyard Golf Course for round two of the NESCAC Championship.Â
