WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – The Amherst College Men's Golf team competed in Day 1 of the Williams College Fall Invitational. The Mammoths competed at the Taconic Golf Course hosted by Williams College.
For Day 1, the field played 36 holes. Round 1 began with an 8 A.M. shotgun start, and Round 2 started right after with a 12 P.M. shotgun start. After the first round, the Mammoths finished in 6th place with a total of 301, or 17 over par (the course is a par 71). The Mammoths fought back and finished their second round with a team score of 285, or 1 over par, and climbed the leaderboard to 4th place. Leading the tournament is Trinity College, who finished both rounds 1 and 2 with a team score of 287, bringing them to 6 over par.
On the individual leaderboard, junior Andre Zhang leads the Mammoths, firing a 73 in round 1 and a 68 in round 2. A. Zhang had 7 birdies throughout both rounds and is individually tied for first place with a Trinity College player. Following Zhang, sophomore Thomas Zhang shot 73 in round 1 and 69 in round 2. T. Zhang had four birdies throughout both rounds, and notably had a bogey-free round 2 (two birdies and 16 pars). Following, freshman Charlie Perkins shot 77, 73. Notably, Perkins eagled hole 10, a par 5, and had a bogey-free front-9 in round 2. Freshman Kaden Choi shot 78, 76 in his collegiate debut. Senior Rhys Burgess shot 81 in round 1, but fought back a shot 75 in round 2.
