Andre Zhang wins Medalist Honors For 2nd Consecutive Week; Mammoth men Place 4th at Williams Invite

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. – The Amherst College men's golf team competed in Day 2 of the Williams College Fall Invitational at Taconic Golf Course Sunday.

For Day 2, the Mammoths started their third 18 hole round with a 9 A.M. shotgun, and played in heavy rain and wind throughout the day. The team defended their 4th place spot after finishing round 3 with a team score of 305, or 21 over par, bringing their three round total to 39 over par. Winning the tournament is Pomona-Pitzer College with a three round total of 25 over par. 

On the individual leaderboard, junior Andre Zhang led the Mammoths winning the tournament individually again! A. Zhang fired a 74, or 3 over par (the course is a par 71), in round 3. A. Zhang finished his round tied with a Tufts College player, and the two entered a playoff on hole 18, a par 5. In the playoff, A. Zhang flew his approach shot to 1.5 feet from the hole, giving him an easy birdie for the win. A. Zhang's opponent hit his approach shot into the bunker, and gave himself a 30 foot putt for birdie. Overall, A. Zhang finished in first place with a three day total of 2 over par (73, 68, 74). 

Following A. Zhang, sophomore Thomas Zhang shot 75 in his third round. T. Zhang finished with a three day total of 4 over par (73, 69, 75), and finished tied for third place. Notably, T. Zhang eagled hole number 1, a par 5. Along with T. Zhang, Senior Rhys Burgess shot 75 in round 3, bringing his three day total to 18 over par (81, 75, 75). Burgess also birdied hole one, and right after birdied hole 2, a par 4. Following, freshman Kaden Choi shot 81, bringing his three day total to 22 over par (78, 76, 81). Freshman Charlie Perkins shot 87, bringing his three day total to 24 over par (77, 73, 87). 

Overall, the Mammoths finished strong with their 4th place finish and individual win. The Mammoths are back in action next weekend competing in the Bowdoin Invitational in Brunswick, Maine.
