Mammoth Men tied for 10th at Bowdoin INvitational

BRUNSWICK, Me.– The Amherst College Men's Golf team competed in Day 1 of the Bowdoin Invitational. The Mammoths competed at the Brunswick Golf Course hosted by Bowdoin College.

For Day 1, the field played 36 holes. Round 1 began with a 7 A.M. shotgun start, and Round 2 started right after with an 11:30 A.M. shotgun start. After the first round, the Mammoths finished with a total of 311, or 23 over par. Similar to last weekend, the Mammoths fought back and finished their second round with a team score of 292, or 4 over par. After 36 holes the Mammoths are tied for 10th place with Williams College. Both teams finished with a two round total of 27 over par. Leading the tournament is Tufts College with a total of 12 over par (296, 292). 


On the individual leaderboard, sophomore Thomas Zhang leads the Mammoths with a two round total of 1 under par. T. Zhang fired a 74, or 2 over par, in round 1 and a 69, or 3 under par, in round 2. T. Zhang started his first round strong with an eagle on hole 3, a par 5, and had two birdies on the back 9. In round 2, T. Zhang had a total of 5 birdies, and a bogey free back 9. T. Zhang is headed into day 2 tied for 4th place individually. Following, junior Andre Zhang fired a two round total of 4 over par. A. Zhang finished round 1 with a 75, and round 2 with a 73.

A. Zhang had four birdies in his round 2. Senior Rhys Burgess finished with a two round total of 8 over par. Burgess finished with a 79 in round 1, but fought back finishing with a 73 in round 2. Burgess also had four birdies in his round 2. Freshman Kaden Choi finished round 1 with an 87, but also fought back and shot 77 in round 2, improving significantly. Finally, freshman Charlie Perkins finished with a two round total of 20 over par. Perkins shot 83 in round 1, and 81 in round 2. 


Overall, the Mammoths finished strong and significantly improved in round 2. After 36 holes, the Mammoths are looking to rest up before heading into a 9:00 A.M. shotgun start tomorrow.
