#16 Amherst prevails against Bates away, 6-1

LEWISTON, ME. — The #16 Amherst College women's tennis team bounced back in dominant fashion on Sunday, besting Bates College 6–1 at the Wallach Tennis Center to improve to 8–4 overall. Less than 24 hours after a tough 3–4 loss at #7 MIT, the Mammoths came out sharp and controlled, winning all three doubles courts, with only one game lost, and taking five of six singles to close out the weekend on a high note.

HIGHLIGHTS
  • Amherst owned the doubles matches from start to finish, sweeping all three courts, each pair winning in just 27 minutes. Tina She and Karolina Dobiecka won 6–1 at #1, Greta Stechschulte and Sophie Diop were dominant 6–0 at #2, and Lily Dounchis and Rachel Roth closed out #3 6–0 to give the Mammoths a commanding 1–0 lead heading into singles.
  • Tina She continued her form at #1 singles, blanking Iris Westmoreland 6–2, 6–0 in under an hour, while Greta Stechschulte and Rachel Roth were equally efficient, winning in straight sets at #2 and #4 respectively. Maya Muhunthan put in a strong performance at #5, winning 6–1, 6–0 against Lia Swire, and Maddie Swire closed out the victory at #6, defeating Grace LaFountain 6–1, 6–2 in just over an hour. Bates' lone singles point came at #3, where Sameera Talwar retired mid-match.

The Mammoths head north for a challenging away trip. taking on Middlebury on Saturday, April 18 at noon before facing Williams on Sunday, April 19 at 11 a.m. Both are key NESCAC matchups that will shape the conference standings heading into the final weeks of the regular season.
