CAMBRIDGE, MA. — The #16 Amherst College women's tennis team fell to #7 MIT 3–4 on Saturday afternoon, dropping to 7–4 overall in a match that was tightly contested throughout. Amherst took the doubles point on the back of two wins and carried real momentum into singles, but MIT's depth singles ultimately proved the difference as the Engineers edged out the Mammoths in the final match to finish.
HIGHLIGHTS
- Amherst claimed the doubles point with authority, winning two of three courts to take a 1–0 lead into singles. Tina She and Karolina Dobiecka won 7–5 at #2, while Greta Stechschulte and Sophie Diop closed out a 6–4 win at #3 to secure the advantage, with #1 doubles going to MIT.
- In singles, Cody Huang was the first off the court and the most dominant, blanking Katie Driscoll 6–1, 6–1 at #3. Tina She fought through a tough three-setter at #1, dropping the first set before rallying to win 2–6, 6–0, 6–3, one of the grittier individual performances of the season.
- Sophie Diop pushed Chloe Zeng to a deciding set at #2 to lose 3–6, 7–6, 0–6 in a heartbreaker. MIT's wins at #2, #4, #5, and #6 singles were enough to take the match for the Engineers
