AMHERST, MA. – Sophomore thrower Gavin Schmidt (Swarthmore, Pa.) has been named the NESCAC Men's Track and Field Performer of the Week, as announced by the conference on Tuesday.

At the UMass Flagship Meet, the Mammoths' outdoor season opener, Schmidt wrote his name in the school record books. He posted a throw of 51.41 meters to win the discus event, a mark that ranks third in Division III at this point in the season.

Schmidt and the Mammoths will return to the action this weekend, with the Amherst Spring Fling on tap this weekend. Come out and and support the Mammoths on Saturday, April 4 at their annual home meet -- events begin mid-morning on Saturday and continue throughout the day.
