MIDDLETOWN, Conn. – The Amherst College men's track and field team opened the outdoor season on Saturday, March 21, at the J. Elmer Swanson Invitational. The Mammoths were a small but mighty throwing squad led by a new javelin school record.

The highlight of the meet came from Manav Bhatia, who delivered a massive performance in the javelin throw. Bhatia secured a second-place finish with a mark of 58.15m (190' 9"), effectively shattering the previous Amherst school record.

The meet served as the primary outdoor opener for the Mammoths, providing the throwing squad with their first look at live competition following the conclusion of the indoor national championships. Bhatia's record-setting mark set an aggressive tone for the rest of the field events, as the team looks to build momentum heading into the start of the spring season.

Amherst will look to carry this energy forward as they continue their outdoor meets at UMass-Amherst (March 27-28) and the Amherst Spring Fling (April 4).
