HADLEY, MA – Senior second baseman
Tyler McCord (Langhorne, Pa.) was named this week's NESCAC Baseball Player of the Week, the conference announced earlier today.
The Mammoths went 5-1 in six games in Florida, and the senior was a vital piece of that performance. McCord went 12-25 for a .480 average over the course of the week, with a .552 on-base percentage and .720 slugging percentage. Of those 12 hits, five went for extra bases, with four doubles and a triple. He also walked four times and scored 11 runs. His best game came against Macalester College, during which he went 4-6 with five RBIs and three runs scored in a 20-5 Amherst win.
Amherst currently stands at 9-2, and will return in their home opener on Wednesday, March 25 against local foe Western New England University. First pitch versus the Golden Bears is scheduled for 4 p.m. on Memorial Field.
