Mammoths in 3rd After Day 2 At NESCAC Championships

MIDDLETOWN, Conn. — The Amherst College men's swimming and diving team delivered a standout Day 2 performance at the NESCAC Championships on Friday night, recording four podium finishes and multiple championship-final swims to hold third place overall behind Tufts and Williams.

Amherst opened the evening with a fifth-place finish in the 200-yard freestyle relay as Ethan Van De Water, Cameron Aryanpour, Tom Conaty, and Roan Haney combined for a time of 1:20.65.

The Mammoths made a major impact in the 50-yard breaststroke championship final, where Fyn Nadel placed third in 24.67 and Eric Albers followed in fifth with a 24.93 clocking to give Amherst two scorers in the A-final.

Amherst added another podium finish in the 50-yard butterfly as Cameron Aryanpour raced to third place in 21.78. Emmanuel Odim placed 10th overall in 22.47, while Henry LeCates finished 12th in 22.63 to add additional team points.

In the 200-yard individual medley championship final, first-year Owen Vale delivered one of Amherst's top swims of the night, touching second in 1:47.84 to earn a podium finish.

Distance points came from the 500-yard freestyle A-final, where Ben Robins placed sixth in 4:31.26 and Jack Goepfrich finished seventh in 4:35.67.

Odim added another scoring swim in the 50-yard backstroke, placing sixth in the A-final in 23.31, while Jonah Luetke took 10th overall with a 23.52 in the B-final.

Amherst closed the night with a third-place finish in the 400-yard medley relay as Luetke, Nadel, Aryanpour, and Goepfrich combined for a 3:15.80.

After two days of competition, Amherst sits third overall, tailing Tufts and Williams as they head into the third day of championship racing.
