MIDDLETOWN, CT. – The Amherst women's swim and dive team placed fourth overall in the NESCAC championship meet, finishing day 4 with many strong swims, five new NCAA B-cut qualifying times, and a NESCAC championship meet record. The Mammoths recorded 1130 points after four days of competitive swimming and diving. Williams College won the NESCAC Championship, with Tufts University placing second and Colby College third.
DAY 4 HIGHLIGHTS:

First-year Penny Lazar continued to show her prowess in the long-distance freestyle events, as she placed 5th in the 1650-yard freestyle. She swam an NCAA B-cut qualifying time of 17:20.97, earning 25 points for her team.

Sydney Thompson placed second in the 100-yard freestyle, posting a time of 50.92. Paige Arnold swam a 51.13 and finished fourth. Both swimmers qualified for the NCAA B meet. Lucy Smith finished ninth in the event, with a time of 51.56.

Junior Meave Kelley finished second in the 200-yard butterfly, swimming a time of 2:01.55, shaving over two seconds off her prelim time of 2:03.69. Her finals time qualified her for the NCAA B meet.

The 400-yard freestyle A relay took first place and set a meet record, finishing in 3:22.11. This relay, comprised of Sydney Thompson, Lucy Smith, Maeve Kelley, and Paige Arnold, shaved over 6 seconds off their seed time of 3:28.45.
The Mammoths will look to keep their momentum going into the NCAA Last Chance Invite next Saturday, February 22nd.
