BRUNSWICK, ME – Amherst College women's tennis opened the ITA New England Regional Championships, hosted by Bowdoin College, by going 13-5 on Friday. Tina She and Greta Stechschulte each won two matches to reach the round of 16 in A singles. Three Amherst pairs advanced to the doubles round of 16, and Sameera Talwar, Gabrielle Shiao and Maya Muhunthan all won their B singles openers.

HIGHLIGHTS

• Stechschulte knocks off a seed. After a 6-0, 6-0 win over Bates' Emma Schillinger, Stechschulte beat No. 9-16 seed Nadia Khera of Tufts, 7-6 (4), 6-4. Stechschulte had lost to Khera at the ITA Invitational earlier this fall.
• She cruises. The No. 2 seed beat Babson's Dana Kamal, 6-3, 6-3, then rolled in the second round by beating Colby-Sawyer's Skylar Jara, 6-0, 6-0.
• Shiao and Muhunthan pull an upset. The pair beat Springfield's Ava Shea and Nadia Andrew, 8-3, then edged No. 9-16 seed Suzy Xu and Lucy Bian of Wellesley, 9-7.
• She and Dounchis survive a tiebreak. The fourth-seeded pair opened with an 8-7 (5) win over Tufts' Nisan Can and Ryan Wuhrman.
• Duduka battles back. Anwi Duduka dropped a first-set tiebreak against Bowdoin's Willow Assante-LaBash before winning 6-7 (5), 6-2, [10-7].
• Clean start in the B draw. Talwar, Shiao and Muhunthan each won their opening B singles match by an 8-1 score.

In singles, Stechschulte meets top seed Sandra Sikharulidze of Babson, and She will face the winner of Kayla Mitchell (Wesleyan) and Jolie Wang (Babson). In doubles, She and Dounchis take on No. 9-16 seed Jolie Wang and Sarai Dorismond of Babson. Stechschulte and Iscen face No. 7 seed Kayla Mitchell and Agnes Guggenheim of Wesleyan, and Shiao and Muhunthan meet No. 6 seed Caroline Stuhlfaut and Zoe Sun of Bowdoin. In the B draw, the round of 32 and round of 16 will be played at Maine Pines. Talwar faces Ava Steinberger (Bates), Shiao meets Jahnavi Vaghasia (Trinity), and Muhunthan takes on Francesca Rodriguez (Bates).
