CAMBRIDGE, MA – Amherst College women's tennis won three of the six draws at the season opening MIT Invitational this past weekend, with all three of its finals appearances ending in titles. Tina She won the singles championship and teamed with Lily Dounchis to win the doubles title, and Ruzi Iscen won the singles consolation draw. She was also named the tournament's Sportsmanship Award recipient.

HIGHLIGHTS

• She sweeps singles and doubles. The top seed opened with a bye, then beat Nadia Khera (Tufts) 7-6(0), 6-3, Sophia Yang (MIT) 6-2, 3-6, [10-6], and Athena Li (Tufts) 6-1, 6-0. She then beat Caroline Stuhlfaut (Bowdoin) in the final, 2-6, 6-1, [10-6].
• Top-seeded doubles team delivers. She and Dounchis won all four of their matches, finishing with an 8-3 win over MIT's Chloe Zeng and Carley Chen in the final.
• Iscen wins the singles consolation draw. After a 5-7, 3-6 loss to Willow Assante-LaBash (Bowdoin) in the main draw, Iscen won four straight matches, including a 6-1, 6-2 win over Ryan Wuhrman (Tufts) in the final.
• Two Amherst teams in the doubles semifinals. She/Dounchis beat Talwar/Iscen, 8-3, in an all-Amherst semifinal.
• Comeback win for Talwar. Sameera Talwar rallied past Alyssa Khou (Tufts) in the opening round, 3-6, 6-4, [11-9].
• Duduka pushes Li to a match tiebreak. Anwitha Duduka lost a three-setter to Athena Li (Tufts) in the round of 16, 7-6(4), 5-7, [7-10]. Li went on to reach the semifinals.
