Tina She of the women's tennis team and
Andre Zhang of the men's golf team have been named Amherst's Student-Athletes of the Month for September
She won both the singles and doubles titles at the MIT Invitational to go 8-0 in September.
The top seed in both the singles and doubles brackets, She earned a bye to the round of 16 and defeated opponents from Tufts, MIT and Bowdoin to claim the singles title, ultimately prevailing in a 10-6 tiebreaker in the championship match. On the doubles side, She teamed with senior
Lily Dounchis and the pair rolled through four pairs in the doubles bracket, earning the title with an 8-3 victory over the third-seeded pair in the bracket from MIT. She was also honored as one of the recipients of the tournament's Sportsmanship Award.
She's undefeated start to the season follows a breakout sophomore campaign in which she finished the season ranked fourth in the nation to earn All-America honors. She was also tabbed as the national Division III Player to Watch by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) and the NESCAC Player of the Year.
A double major in economics and mathematics from Stouffville, Ontario, She was named a CSC Academic All-American and an ITA Scholar-Athlete and earned a spot on the NESCAC All-Academic Team.
Zhang won two tournaments in September, taking medalist honors at the Nelson Invitational and the Williams Invitational.
Kicking off the season at the Nelson Invitational at Middlebury, Zhang shot a 1-under par 70 with three birdies in the final round to move up five spots to the top of the leaderboard and claim the individual title by one stroke at 1-over par on the weekend. A week later at the Williams Invitational, Zhang fired a 3-under 68 in the second round to claim the lead and finished the final round tied atop the leaderboard with Tufts senior J.P. Noone. Zhang birdied the par-5 playoff hole to win the tournament. He earned back-to-back NESCAC Player of the Week honors.
Zhang is a two-time First Team All-NESCAC and two-time All-Region selection, helping the Mammoths win the NESCAC Championship in 2025. The Davis, California, native has 10 top-10 finishes in 14 career tournaments, including three tournament wins and a 10th-place finish at the 2025 NCAA Championships.
She and the women's tennis team begin October with competition at the ITA New England Regional Championships at Bowdoin College from Oct. 2–4, while Zhang and the men's golf team wrap up the fall season at the Skidmore Fall Invitational on Oct. 10–11.
