Gretchen Dann (Hanover, N.H.) was named the first NESCAC Player of the Week of the new year for women's ice hockey, the conference announced earlier today.
Dann played a vital part in her team's 2-0-0 week, in which they captured the Mustang Cup Championship with wins over host SUNY Morrisville and No. 9 Adrian College. In a 4-1 win over the Mustangs in the tourney opener, Dann scored twice and assisted the game-winning goal in a 4-1 win. In the title game, Dann scored the game-winner with 2:36 left in the third period as her team netted three times in the final five minutes of regulation to win 3-1. Dann leads the Mammoths with seven goals as a defender and is tied for the team lead in points with 11.
Amherst is currently ranked No. 2 in the nation and stands at 7-0-2. They will return to home ice in their next game, taking on local opponent Western New England at Orr on Thursday, Jan. 8. Puck Drop is scheduled for 7 p.m.
